FISH MARKET
4:00 am, the alarm starts ringing beside my bed. I have a problem to understand what is going on, then suddenly a flash passes through my mind: The Fish Market photoshoot.
Jump out of bed, prepare coffee with my beloved Bialetti moka express, and run under the shower with my toothbrush.
4:30 am kiss my wife Sandra still in a deep sleep, pick up my camera backpack, open the entry door, turn off all the lights and walk to the garage with the light of my cellphone.
Outside it’s totally dark, silent and a bit chilly.
Turning on the car in the garage at 4:30 of the morning, sounds like an explosion.
Drive few blocks up to the hill to pick up Roy. A member of the Photography Club. I approach his house very slow, and I see him waiving his hand in the dark in from of his garage. He sits in the car and he puts his camera bag between his feet.
“Good morning!” “Good morning!” “Are you doing?” “Good” “Let’s go”.
And we drive to Pier 38. Destination: Whole Fish Market.
We arrive there and the area is totally empty. No people around. No cars. Nothing. We drive around a warehouse and we see a lady in the first light of the morning standing beside a parked car. Karen! She is another photographer of the club.
We parked the car and we three together start walking toward the head of the pier. It’s almost sunrise.
We walk through the fishing boats piers
Then, we see a fishing boat downloading.
7:00 am, it’s the end of the day.
The cafe’ of the harbor is opening. For us, it’s time for a coffee and a muffin, and then go home to download our photos.
